USCIS update

This may sound familiar because yes, yes we have done this before.  That's the thing about all these documents and paperwork that you spend all this time gathering and doing the first time around is that they all expire.  Specifically these fingerprints expire every 18 months and you get a free update after you do them once.  So this was our free update.  Hopefully we won't have to do this again! Next time we have to pay uncle sam...again...  When we first started this process you didn't routinely have to update all your documents because you were typically matched with a child before it all started expiring.  Nowadays it is a known fact that everything will have to be renewed once or twice even.

I've seen a lot of people say it is a lot less fun the second time around.  You lose some of the excitement and newness of it all.  While that is true I have to say that it was still exciting.  At least we were "doing" something since so much of this is just hanging out and waiting to no end it seems...
We went to the USCIS in Charleston this time and it is much smaller than the one in Raleigh but the people were still friendly like last time and we were in and out super quick.  Basically you walk in with your appointment letter, fill out a form and someone takes a bunch of fingerprints electronically so no ink like you might think, then you're done and you wait for your approval in the mail.

We made a fun day out of it and headed to downtown Charleston, the outlets, and to lunch with a nice view although a little cloudy.
We are praying and asking the Lord to allow us to see our son's face before the end of the year so we're hoping this is the last time we have to do this but he only knows!

  1. At least you got a day in charleston out of it! That's fun! And I didn't know they did electronic fingerprinting now... That's interesting.

  2. Haha, I was also thinking "where's the ink"? That's cool. And I hope this is the last time you have to do it too. Praying for everything to work out and for Silas to be home soon!
